Book Review: How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. It had me laughing out loud, which is a rare experience for me with books. The story follows an adult woman and her brother, who inherit their parents’ house after their parents pass away. However, they soon discover that the house is haunted by a puppet.

I listened to the audiobook, which is read by a real-life brother and sister. Their puppet voices were absolutely hilarious and had me in stitches.

The two adult siblings in the story bicker constantly. I found their relationship eerily similar to the one I have with my own sibling, and some of their conversations were so cringeworthy that they were difficult to read.

I’ve heard some readers complain that the book isn’t scary, but I thought it was pretty clear that it wasn’t meant to be. If Hendrix had intended to frighten readers, he would have chosen a creepier villain than a puppet. How to Sell a Haunted House is completely silly and over the top, and that’s exactly what makes it so great.
